Preparations
Location: Sickbay & Bridge
[Sickbay]
Once she'd returned to sickbay, turned on the computers, and gotten her coffee, the young Vissian sighed deeply, but decided she best get to work. She opened a general channel.
"All staff must report to sickbay. Um...Immediately. Please." She sighed as she clicked off. Breeze would've been way more professional. Feeva was far too neurotic for this.
The door to sickbay opened as Lieutenant Hunt entered. Over the last couple of hours, Devon had gone through video footage throughout the ship seeing if he could catch anything that could help explain what happened last night. Looking around, he spotted several viles and automatically assumed that they were here for blood screenings. Never did he consider that the Founders could be responsible for this. But they did have to rule out all suspects.
Erskin Mon entered Sickbay with a brisk, efficient stride, his dark eyes scanning the room. He could feel the young Vissian doctor’s nervous energy, a sharp contrast to the heavy, clinical quiet of the ward.
"Doctor," Erskin greeted, his voice professional and direct. He moved toward a terminal, not waiting for an invitation. "I’ve initiated the departmental lockout for Ops, but I’m here for the priority screening. If there’s a biological issue on this ship, we need it flagged before the data trail goes cold."
"Excellent idea," she said. "I have also begun biological isolation settings," she noted, indicating a nearby biobed where he could sit.
He offered his arm with practiced grace, his gaze drifting toward Lieutenant Hunt. To Erskin, the blood test was a logical necessity, though he suspected the real answers were still buried in the sub-processor logs currently downloading to his PADD.
Feeva was barely at the bedside when Mon extended an arm. She appreciated the promptness, but the Trill was almost TOO efficient. In a flash, Feeva had a blood kit out, and her tricorder. "This won't hurt a bit," she said, quickly inserting the needle with the careful precision that she brought to all of her tasks, and, a moment later, a quiet "click" was heard as the needle extracted from his skin. She ran the tricorder across the forearm quickly; a quick healing ray of light.
"See? Didn't hurt me a bit," she said, taking a stab at a joke. "I expect to have the results processed quickly," she said. "You're welcome to stay or go. You shouldn't have any after effects but a bit of pain in your arm. If you do experience anything new, let me know," she said.
Rolling up his own sleeve, Kenneth extended his arm. He returned the gaze towards Erskin with one of his own. Everyone was on edge, which was natural. But it certainly didn't feel right.
A moment later, Feeva had Erskin's blood in a vial and bandaged him up, and moved on to Hunt. "Sir. Same thing...it won't hurt, or it shouldn't. If it does, please tell me," she said. She quickly inserted a new needle, and a moment later, she had filled a second vial. She removed the butterfly from his arm, and bandaged him with a band-aid.
"Alright, you two are free to go," she said. "As I noted, results should be available soon," Feeva said, placing the two vials into the extraction machine. Later, she'd use a small sample of each for testing, and send the rest to science.
Erskin smoothed his sleeve back into place with a crisp, measured motion. He didn't smile at the joke; his mind was already calculating the time-variance between the blood processing and the data-dump currently rattling his PADD. To him, the hypo was a minor physical variable, but the tension in the room was a heavy, persistent signal that required monitoring.
"Efficiency is appreciated, Doctor," Erskin replied, his tone polite but distant. He stepped away from the biobed, reclaiming his space with a deliberate, upright posture. He caught Hunt’s gaze—a steady, unblinking look that acknowledged their shared suspicion without needing to vocalize it. "I’ll be on the Bridge if the results yield any anomalies in the cellular structure," he added, tapping his PADD to check the progress of the departmental lockout. "If the biology doesn't match the ship's logs, we have a breach of a different nature."
Feeva just nodded. She had no idea what that even meant. "Yes, sir," she noted.
He offered a sharp, singular nod before heading toward the exit. He wasn't feeling "after-effects" from the puncture, only the nagging itch of an incomplete picture. He needed to be back at his station, where the logic was binary and the ghosts didn't bleed.
Eila arrived in sickbay, finding that Mon and Hunt had gotten there before her. Not wanting to bother Doctor Drylo just yet, Eila went and found Sanya working instead.
"Sorry I'm late, babe." Eila apologized sheepishly. "I was going over security video with Commander Lurath to determine who I need to interrogate first."
"Better late than never, as you always say." Sanya motioned towards an empty biobed. "Have a seat. I'll let Doctor Drylo know you're here."
"Thanks, Sanya." Eila sighed as she climbed up on the empty biobed.
With Eila on a biobed, Sanya walked over to where Feeva was working on Hunt and Mon.
"Doctor Drylo?" Sanya said as she approached. "Sorry to interrupt, but my girlfriend- eh, the first officer is here for blood test."
Kenneth raised an eyebrow towards the new of the first officer being Sanya's girlfriend. In all honesty, it wasn't his business. He was a bit frustrated with the fact that his blood screenings did not result in immediate results. If one of them was a changeling, then by the time the results came out, they would have likely taken on another form.
Feeva chose not to hear the "girlfriend" part, as it wasn't her business, and she didn't really understand romantic interactions anyway. They didn't have romantic relationships on Vissia, only matches to create children. Some of them were based on economic class, but most were just based on proximity. For example, had Feeva stayed, she probably would've been married off to someone who lived in her village.
"I will attend to her immediately," Feeva said, and turned around. She found Eila on a biobed.
"Hello," she said warmly. She smiled lightly. "This won't hurt at all, I promise," she said, and with the deft of a person who studied the perfect way to draw blood (because she had), she inserted the needle and, a moment later, a soft "click" as it ended and she extracted it from her skin.
"Alright. You're free to go," she said. "Lt. Hunt, do you need someone to escort you out? Are you feeling ok?" She asked.
Not long after, the doors of the sickbay opened. In walked Captain Misaka followed by Lieutenant Kamijou. "Doctor." Misaka said as she walked over. "Here for you to do our test." she said simply as she held out an arm.
"Ma'am," Feeva said, and nodded once in deference. "This shouldn't hurt, but if it does, please let me know," she said. A moment later, the needle was in, and another moment, Feeva had her vial. She placed a bandage on the Captain's arm, and stepped back. "Ok, you shouldn't have any other symptoms, but please let me know if you do. I don't want to come find you passed out in the Chair on the Bridge in an hour," she said, trying to sound stern.
"Lieutenant, same thing," she said, carefully holding the woman's arm to insert the needle. Another second later, they had the blood, and Feeva banaged the Lieutenant with the same spiel. Now she could test it. As the Captain and Lt. Kamijou left, Feeva got to work iwht the DNA sequencer. It would take just about a half hour, but Feeva knew that preciseness was important. She figured that, because none of the Senior crew had had a reaction to the blood draw, that they weren't Changelings, but you never knew. They were tricky fellows, after all.
[At little while later]
Finally, the beep of the machine rang out across the tense, quiet air of Sickbay. She looked at the Nurse, and nodded once, and then ran towards the machine. After a quick glance at the screen, she let out a sigh of relief. "Going to find the Captain," she said, and sent the data to the Captain's PADD and Science. As she hurriedly left Sickbay, Feeva tapped her Comms.
=/\=Captain? Where are you? I need a moment, please!! =/\= She headed for the Bridge. It made the most sense that that's where the Captain would be.
"Misaka here." Misaka's voice replied over the comm. "Whats the matter doctor?"
She hurried onto the Bridge.
"Good news is that there's no Changeling DNA amongst the crew," she said. "No anomalies. Everyon's blood matches their profiles," she said. "The bad news is that we still have no answers," she said. "I am sorry, Ma'am," she said. She had forgotten protocols in her hurry to tell the Captain the good news. "If there's nothing else, I'll return to Sickbay," she said, blushing slightly. It was out of character for her to react in this way; she was normally very quiet, proper, by the book.
"Thankyou Doctor." Misaka said, a hint of disappointment in her voice. "So, it seems we're back to square one." she said as she looked over to Eila who was sitting next to her. "Looks like we have to find that Cardassian Ship still." She pulled herself out of her chair. "I have a call to make. Have all of the senior staff report to the observation lounge in one hour."
"Will do, Captain." Eila said, tapping her combadge. "Attention, all senior staff; report to the observation lounge by 08:00 hours. That will be all."
With that said, Misaka made her way towards the ready room. She hesitated as she reached the doors, this was going to be a difficult conversation with Starfleet Command.
