Mission: Preparations
Location: Main Bridge

It was just past midnight aboard the Ermiana. The ship was cruising at a steady warp six towards Depp Space Nine. So far it had all gone smoothly and they were due to arrive in just under twenty nine hours.

On the bridge, the lights were dimmed to simulate the 'nightshift' aesthetic. Ot the essential consoles were manned, Operations, Helm and Security. During the nightshift the bridge was also less manned.

Lieutenant Jameson was the officer of the watch tonight. He sat in Captain Misaka's chair as he flickered through a PADD. There was never anything important to do on the nightshift. At most they would make minor course corrections, and solve tiny 'niggles' that matter crop up with the ship itself. All of the 'big decisions' had already been made, they were only there to keep the status quo. Most officers would describe manning the nightshift as 'totally boring'.

He occasionally looked up from the chair at the viewscreen, the stars were streaking towards them only to disappear behind them as the ship continued on at warp speed.

Aiden stood at the Tactical Console, his arms crossed over his chest, occasionally uncrossing them to hit a button before returning them to their usual position. His purple hair slightly covered his left eye, which only hide it from the rest of the expression on his face which seemed board. He hated the nightshift. He preferred to be at ten forward, or his quarters, indulging himself in his favorite passed time. Gaming.

Lynn Wilkins was at the helm this night. She normally wasn't one to work the night shift, but had agreed to swap shifts with a friend who normally did when she had a family emergency crop up. She had taken over the helm watch late, as it had taken longer for her to put her young daughter Serena down for the night, and ever since, her mind had been fixated on this tardiness factoring into her performance review.

Jameson finally put the PADD down and stretched. "So..." he said trying to spark some form of conversation. "Hows... everything?"

Lynn heard the question from the helm station, and took the bait.

"Serena's doing a lot better." She remarked. "Still worried sick about her, though, after what happened..."

Standing at the Mission Ops console, Andorian Ensign Ishrib th'Zerot answered quickly, "I'm fine."

Jameson returned to his PADD, there was never anything exciting to do on the night shift.

[Sickbay]

Down in Sickbay, Doctor Sluchhny sat at the desk. It was DEAD; the singular patient was sleeping, and he didn't need to check on him for awhile. Feeva ran this place like a well-oiled machine. He had come onto his shift with everything fully stocked, the patient medicated properly, and such. So now...he just waited. He sipped some tea, and read a research article on his PADD. It was about some emerging viruses from the DQ-a newly discovered area and full of possibilities-and germs. The tall Russian was excited to see what would happen. He had a feeling that his boss, however, would feel otherwise. She was a bit neurotic. But nice enough, as far as CMOs went. The former lady was cool. He wasn't sure about Drylo yet, completely.

[Bridge]

Jameson pulled himself out of the center chair and crossed the bridge to the food replicator. "Anyone up for a coffee? Its my round." He asked.

"I'll take a cup." Aiden said, raising his hand up slightly. "Give me the gamers special. A two sots of expresso in mine."

As the lieutenant pulled out the small tray of drinks the Ermiana suddenly shook violently. The tray of drinks fell to the floor, splashing all over the carpet. Jameson grabbed one of the handrails as the ship shook again.

"What's going on? Report!" He yelled out.

"We've been hit!" Aiden shouted after the first hit. As the second one struck, he gripped the edges of the console to stay up, before tapping the console. "Shields holding! Scanning for who hit us." He struck the consoles controls quickly, bringing up the tactical scanners as he looked up. "We've been knocked out of warp, so it will take me a minute."

"How did we not see them!" Jameson asked as the stars of the viewscreen became stationary. It was then very obvious who had hit them. A Cardassian Galor Class cruiser swept above them. Golden phaser beams striking from their aft as they began to bank and bring their main phaser array to bear. "We should return fire right? Or do we attempt to hail them?"

As the confirmation of the Galor Class ship came across his console, he looked up to see it on the main viewscreen. "They're firing at us, Jimmy! I don't think they are here to talk!" Aiden shouted back as he looked down at the console again, alerting him to the status of the shields. "Shields down to 80 percent! Are we returning fire or are we just gonna stand here and take a beating?!!!"

"Good point." Jameson said. "Well, return fire. Maybe target their weapons?" Jameson hoped that Captain Misaka didn't mind that he was ordering to fire back.

Aiden rolled his eyes, letting out a small frustrated sigh, as he tapped the console. He knew James was nervous about taking command during the night shift, while still having a small confidence issue, but he didn't know it was this bad. The whole reason he took the shift was to have his friends back. "Maybe I'll even try to lock on to them. You know... if I am feeling generous." He tapped the console and locked onto the Cardassian ship, firing at them with a stream of phaser fire and volley of torpedoes.

The phasers amd torpedoes struck the Cardassians shields causing them to shimmer the expected golden colour. However the cruiser had completed its turn and its main phaser array mounted on the front fired. The main forward golden phaser beams struck the Ermiana with full force.

"Full reverse, get us out of their weapons range." Jameson called. "Continue firing phasers."

The ship shook again, prompting Aiden to grab onto the console's edge to keep from falling over. "Could we possibly avoid being hit by every... single... one of there shots?!!" He shouted before tapping onto the console. "We're about to lose shields!" He raised a brow. In all the confusion with the battle he didn't realize the shields were either too weak or the Cardassians weapons fire was so strong. There was no way either of those made sense.

Jameson nodded. "Got it." He replied. "Helm initiate evasive maneuvers."

"Evasive maneuvers, Pattern Delta." Lynn responded, her fingers dancing along the smooth surface of the helm station to bring the Ermiana into a zigzagging maneuver, which should have made them harder to hit.

Another shot from the Cardassian ship hit their hull. "What the hell?!" Aiden said before he tapped on the console quickly and noticed the shields had dropped right before the last shot. Which made no sense. Before it there should have been enough shields to take another shot, but the shields dropped which exposed their hull to the incoming fire. "James?... the-" Before he could tell Constantine what was going on, he was interrupted by the Ops officer.

"The weapons in the cargo bay have been transported off." She said before looking over to Aiden. "What happened to the shields over the cargo bay?!"

"They were there, Melissa, I swear!" Aiden countered as he looked to James. "We-" He was interrupted again, this time by another shot at the ship, but this time the shaking wasn't the only thing. There were several explosions, but the one that caught Aiden off guard was the one from the tactical console. The sparks covered his face before he was thrown back against the wall and hit the ground with a thud.

"Aid!!" Melissa shouted before tapping her combadge. "Bridge to sickbay. We need someone on the bridge for injuries!" She said before rushing over to check on Aiden.

Down in Sickbay, Feeva was on standby, ready to hop at the call. And then it came.

"Computer. Beam me to the Bridge, please," she said, grabbing her go kit off the desk. "I'll be back, prep a biobed," she managed to get out before she disappeared, and reappeared on the Bridge. In a moment, she broke out into a short burst of jog. "I am here," she made her way towards the fallen officer. "What happened?" She asked. From her kit, she withdrew a hypospray gun and a tricorder. "Burns to the face, apparently superficial. Hold on," she said, to Aiden. A moment later, the soft click and hiss of the hypospray would administer a proper amount of painkiller into the man. "He's just been knocked out, but life signs are strong," she said. She clicked her comms, and opened the Medical transporter. "Two to Medical," she said, and disappeared with the man. She'd need a hand once they'd arrived; Feeva was only about five feet two inches tall and one hundred pounds; no way could she lift this man into a biobed.

A moment later, however, the assistant was at her side, heaving him into the prepped biobed. "A small explosion. Vitals are ok. Get me the dermal regenerator, and something to keep him knocked out. Let the Captain know he'll be out of duty for at least several hours, please," she said. Quickly, she began to tap screens and buttons, moving to insert an IV and work to keep the man stable. The regeneration process took several rounds of twenty minute applications, but even after the first one, the beginning signs of healing were staring to show. Good. He was also sleeping, but breathing strong and steady. She took a moment before the next application to prep another biobed; if the Lieutenant was any indication, they were going to need as many as possible. And could someone please stop the incessant shaking?

[Main Bridge]

The doors of the forward turbolift opened and out walked Captain Misaka. She glanced momentarily at the burnt out tactical console. "Report." She ordered simply.

"A Cardassian Cruiser ambused us Captain. We've taken damage to the nacelles and being dropped out of warp." Jameson said. "Aiden... I mean Lieutenant Corvis was just taken to sickbay after the tactical console overloaded."

"Where is the Cardassian cruiser now?" Misaka asked simply.

"It jumped to warp after it..."

"After it what?" Misaka crossed her arms.

"After it beamed all of the weapons that we were transporting straight out of the cargo bays Captain." Jameson explained grimly. "I believe that is what they were after..."

Misaka nodded as she massaged her forehead. "It seems that we're the victim of an old fashioned 'hit and run'." She stated. "Go to yellow alert. I want a full damage report." She ordered.

Jameson nodded. "Yes sir." He said as he then scurried off towards the rear engineering console.

Meanwhile, Misaka tapped her comm badge. "Senior Officers report to my ready room immediately." She said simply.

"No need to tell me twice:" Came Eila's voice as she emerged from one of the aft turbolifts. The motion of the ship had jostled the XO awake, and her first instinct was to head to the bridge.

Erskin Mon exited the Turbolift behind the First Officer. The young Trill looked at Ensign th'Zerot, "Start running full scans of the area trying to find who hit us."

Coming out of the turbolift as well was Lieutenant Hunt. Moving towards the tactical station, he sighed at the damage. Like most of the ship the attack had awaken him. Staring out the window of his quarters before running down the corridor, he noticed the Cardassian cruiser making another run at the Ermiana.

"Lieutenant," the Trill greeted. icer simply nodded.

Feeva hated leaving Sickbay but left her nurse in charge to make the quick jaunt up to the Ready Room. She came in last, looking as harried and tired as usual. Even when Breeze was in charge, Feeva had always been a type to overwork and overtax herself. It stemmed from a need to prove her worth, and show that her people "belonged" in Starfleet. "Hello," she said, quietly, taking a seat and then folding her hands neatly into her lap.
